Aggie News![]() Update 09/03/06 NG NAMED GWFC DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEKDAVIS, Calif. -- UC Davis senior Mike Ng was named the Great West Football Conference Defensive Player of the Week on Sunday after his three sacks, fumble recovery and five total tackles helped lead the No. 21 Aggies to a season-opening 38-7 win at Northern Colorado on Saturday afternoon. Ng, a 6-foot-5, 250-pound defensive end from Fairfield, was a key component of the Aggies' defense, which held the Bears to just 32 rushing yards on 24 attempts. Ng, a All-GWFC first-team pick last season, had a pair of sacks against Northern Colorado quarterback Dominic Breazeale in the second quarter. He recorded his final sack in the fourth quarter, tackling Breazeale in the end zone for a safety. Ng's fumble recovery came in the first quarter, helping lead to running back Alex Garfio's touchdown that gave UC Davis a 7-0 lead. UC Davis led just 10-7 in the third quarter before scoring the game's final 28 points. Southern Utah quarterback Wes Marshall was named the league's offensive player of the week after completing 21 of 25 passes for a career-best 301 yards and three touchdowns in the Thunderbirds' 38-0 win over Montana Tech. Kicker Shawn Bibeua earned special teams honors after going 9-for-9 in extra points while converting a 26-yard field goal in the Bison's 66-7 win over Concordia-St. Paul on Thursday.
